Thought for the Week

Haiti - Where Is God?

A question that has been asked many times recently - If God is a God of Love then why does he allow these things to happen?
I remember a radio interview where this type of question was posed to the Archbisop of York Dr John Sentamu. He provided a very complex theological answer which I found almost impossible to follow.

The planet earth is a very complex structure and in order for it to provide a stable environment and sustainable weather patterns certain natural events must occur and eartquakes are one of those events. God did not ask man to live at the side of volcanoes or on earthquake fault lines. It is known that Gomera in the Canary Islands could erupt again (last one in 1949) and if this happens the island could split in 2 causing a Tsunami that will be felt across Eastern USA and the the South West of England. We know it will happen but don't know when.

So Where is God? Again on the radio it was said on an interview you don't hear of Athiest Aid. God is in the midst of the earthquake in his people showing love, compassion and caring for the victims. Christians from all over the world came together to show God's Love in the provision of people, medicines, food water and money. Where is God? God is in His People and we need to show His Love and Compassion and care for the whole of society so that God's Love is seen in us.
